What a Competition to Cover!

I was so impressed with the kids drawings when I ran a magazine cover competition in my local town of Oswestry! Once we’d picked the winner I couldn’t help but share a selection of these lovely entries with you, and the gorgeous winning cover! Enjoy!

Thomas Ethelston (age 7)

Thomas Ethelston (age 7)

Over lockdown Thomas has learned to ride his bike, played football and he’s missed his swimming lessons at Oswestry leisure centre with his teacher Curly. He used a mixture of pen, pencil and pastels for this gorgeous piece!

Rhys Owen (age 6)

Like so many of the kids, Rhys missed seeing hot air balloons flying over the hill fort! I missed them too Rhys.

Anwen Chesters (7 years old)

Anwen Chesters

Anwen has drawn a windy road with all the places in Oswestry she’s missed in lockdown… I think we all have to agree if we’re being honest with ourselves… Greggs (the smells as you’re walking past…) Boots (Shopping and again with the smells of the perfume counter…) and obviously the park and the pet shop. Anwen you speak the truth!

Catrin Utting (8 years old)

Evie Wilson (7 years old)

Evie has drawn an AMAZING tree house with her friends playing for her picture! I want this in my garden.

Thomas has missed the park and his friend Ivan, his Gran and Grandpa and the balloon carnival!

The winner is….

The entry that really stood out for us under the theme ‘What we love about Oswestry’ was by our competition winner… Dylan Owen!

This gorgeously vibrant and colourful vision of Whittington Castle really stood out for Victoria, the Editor of Oswestry Life and myself!

Dylan, I hope you enjoy spending your vouchers in Meraki Colour and most of all seeing your winning entry on this lovely magazine all over Oswestry! It was such an honour to meet you and give you your prize in person – congratulations!

A massive well done to all our wonderful entrants and I hope to see more of your drawings – why not follow my tutorial on how to draw Little Fox from ‘The Shoe Foxes’?

Just go to page 53 in your copy of Oswestry Life or check it out in the online version here.
